Regenerative stem cell therapy uses an animal’s own stem cells to help it heal. When adult stem cells are introduced into diseased or injured tissue, they sense and map themselves into the local tissue type, enhancing the healing process.
Adult stem cells are harvested from the patient’s belly fat during a brief, painless minor procedure and extracted and processed with a special enzyme in our in-house state-of-the-art ARC system from InGeneron Inc. We then immediately inject the cells directly into the area requiring treatment, or intravenously for a systemic effect, in a same-day procedure.
Vet-Stem is located in California, and requires that we harvest the fat tissue and send it to California for two-day processing at their laboratory. We inject the cells into the patient when they are returned. Vet-Stem offers the advantage of banking stem cells in their facility for future use at an additional cost, which is a service we do not currently provide.
We presently use stem cells to treat osteoarthritis and immune-mediated arthritis as well as soft tissue injuries in tendons and ligaments, including partial ruptures of the cranial cruciate ligament. There is also promising research into the use of stems cells for immune-mediated, liver, and kidney disease.
Platelet rich plasma (PRP), which is rich in growth factors and cytokines, is frequently used to speed wound healing and tissue repair. PRP can be deployed in conjunction with stem cells. Our in-house ARC system can be used to extract plasma from your animal's whole blood.
